Internationally renowned ensemble Red Priest performs baroque music on instruments of the era, with the fiery energy, freedom and intensity of a rock group! An evocative, state-of –the-art backdrop of video, sound, light and stage effects enhances the very qualities that this extraordinary music represents: drama, passion and beauty, eccentric humour and gothic horror.

This dynamic production opens with a ghostly video sequence shot on location in Venice, as four cloaked and hooded musicians emerge to perform Vivaldi’s spine-chilling ‘Nightmare Concerto’. A sequence of fantastic and haunting music by baroque masters follows, as the performers weave a mysterious journey through the Venetian carnival, complete with tolling bells, witches and masked figures. Act One concludes in spectacular fashion with a flame-throwing recorder and angelic sounds from the choir of San Marco.

Act Two takes us to the rustic Italian countryside and the rural idyll of The Four Seasons – with a short excursion to the Caribbean for some winter sun! A stag hunt, lazy sun drenched summer days, thunder and lightning, a drunken harvest gathering and winter ice-skating are all highlighted in this vividly theatrical production of Vivaldi’s ever-popular masterpiece.
