The PETROF TRIO originated from an idea from the violinist of the Wihan Quartet Jan Schulmeister in 2009. Its members are prestigious chamber players, who bring years of concert experience and new excitement to their concert programmes.In the same year that it was formed, the ensemble became the resident trio of the PETROF Company, who wanted to associate its tradition and quality with top-level concert artists. The trio’s repertoire includes pieces from composers from the early classics to impressionism (Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, Lalo, Fauré, Debussy, etc.).The ensemble also plays contemporary composers, who enrich their repertoire withcompositions from 20th and 21st centuries.
Martina Schulmeisterová was born in Havlíčkův Brod in 1978. During her studies, she came to public notice in many successes in both national and international piano competitions. In 1993 she was placed second in the international competition held in Kosiceand she was one of the finalists in the international piano competitions hosted by Ettlingen,Germany(1994) and in the Czech Republic „Beethoven´s Hradec“(1996). She also won a medal in the international piano competition(A.M.A. Calabria)in Lamezia Terme, Italy(1999)and in „Musical Performance and Pedagogics“ in Helsingor, Denmark(2000).She performs frequently in the Czech Republic,Poland, England, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovakia, Denmark, China and Taiwan.Martina Schulmeisterova has been a piano profesor at the P.J.Vejvanovský Conservatory inKroměříž since 2002.
Jan Schulmeister was born on 5th February 1964 in Olomouc, Moravia. Hecomes from a family with musical tradition of more than 150 years. He became afounder member of the Wihan Quartet there in 1985. In 1988, they won the PragueSpring Festival Competition and in 1990 the Quartet was awarded the First Prizein the Trapani International Chamber Music Competition in Sicily. In 1991, theWihan Quartet received both the First Prize and the Audience Prize in the LondonInternational String Quartet Competition. The foreman of the jury in the competitionwas Lord Menuhin and this competition launched the Quartet’s international career.The Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa, where the WihanQuartet was awarded the Bronze Medal, was their final competition.Jan has recorded more than 40 CDs with the Wihan Quartet, including two completeBeethoven Quartet Cycles. He has given many concerts in Europe, USA, Australia,New Zealand, Japan, Middle and Far East Countries. In addition, he has givenchamber music masterclasses in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and theMenuhin School in the UK. He is a visiting tutor at Trinity College music in London.In 2006 he and his wife (pianist Martina Schulmeisterova) made a workd premiererecording of the Bach organ trio sonatas (BWV 525 – 530) in a transcription for aviolin and a piano by Ferdinand David.
Kamil Žvak was born in Vsetín in 1981. He started playing cello at the age of sixwith Mgr. Zdenka Pimkova. He then continued his studies at the P.J.Vejvanovskýconservatory in Kroměříž. At the Academy of Performing Arts he studied withProfessor Miroslav Petráš. He has also studied period music performance inValtice (Prof.Irmtraud Hubarschk), in Internationale Sommerakademie Semmering(Prof.Tobias Kuhne and Prof.Tomasz Strahly) and in the Masterclasses of AnnerBylsma, Peter Wispelwey and Lubomir Georgiev.As well as giving many chamber music concerts Kamil Žvak also performs inseveral European countries as a soloist.He has been a cello professor at theP.J.Vejvanovský Conservatory in Kroměříž since 2010.
